Design Build Process

Design, Construction and Customer Service

Pearl Landscaping & Patio Design-Build Process ensures your experience is positive from initial meeting to final walk through. We are committed to providing the excellence in design, construction and customer service. We work hard to communicate with you throughout the process, so you know exactly what to expect.

Initial Meeting

1. An on-site appointment will be scheduled at your convenience. There is a fee for our time and ideas and expertise. We charge a $75 consultation flat fee that can be applied to many of our landscape projects. This $75 dollar fee will cover the first hour of consultation, further consultation and design time will be billed depending on the scope of your project. *Note Consultations do not include landscape plans.

2. Our Designer will meet you at your home, and assess your needs and your site. We will offer ideas that match your needs and desires. These ideas may be verbal, or they may be in the form of a full design.

Design and Preliminary Budget

The purpose of this phase is to clearly define the overall scope, direction, and parameters of the project. After measuring the property, your designer will produce a landscape design showing the elements of your landscape: patio, water features, walls, walkways, planting beds, etc. Your designer will also provide an estimate of what it will take to build your landscape, general information about construction methods, and some early suggestions for plants and materials. You and your designer will agree on the project parameters and move forward with the design process.

Please contact us for more information about design & planning fees. Fees vary depending on the size and complexity of your project.

Planning & Specifications

Once you and your designer have agreed on a preliminary budget and design -- it's time to focus on the details of your project: refining the layout, plant selection, choosing materials for hardscapes, soil testing (if necessary), inventory and analysis of existing plants, and coordinating bids from subcontractors. During this phase you will rely on Pearl Landscaping for our construction and budgeting expertise. Many questions will be asked and answered, new ideas will surface, and early ones might be scratched. In the end, you have a detailed landscape plan, time line, and line item budget.

Your designer will provide details about design and planning fees during the initial meeting. There is no charge for the initial meeting with a designer.

Contract and Scheduling

You can decide at any time to sign a contract for your project. When we have received a signed contract and a 10% deposit, you will be assigned a "place in the schedule." This is like getting a number at the neighborhood bakery.

During peak season, it can take three to four weeks from contract signing to installation; that's why many clients will sign a Construction Contract while they are still "tweaking" the Plan. If your project changes after you have signed a contract, the contract and payments will be adjusted as necessary.

Two Weeks Before Construction

By now your detailed Plans are complete and your Contract is final. Your designer will call to confirm your anticipated place on the schedule. Sometimes projects are delayed due to inclement weather; but we do our best to keep you informed and minimize surprises. Projects are scheduled and built in order, based on the time we receive a signed Contract and payments.

Our crews will never abandon someone else's project to start yours, and will never disappear from your project to go work on another.

Construction

Many projects can be built in just a couple of days. More complex projects may take a few weeks, depending on the size of the project (and, of course, the weather).

If your landscape includes a deck, pool, or other structure, we will help you obtain necessary permits and approvals.

Final Walk-Through

On the day of completion, your project manager or designer will take you on a guided tour of your landscape, and provide information about how you should care for newly planted trees, plants, and turf. If you have any questions after your project is complete, just call us and we'll be happy to answer them.
